Most technology companies that build production dashboards have never run a production floor. TekNation’s founder has. That difference shows up in the specificity of what we build and how we build it.
This article describes TekNation’s capability to build a Status at a Glance board for manufacturing environments that go beyond a simple single-line production view: facilities running multiple production lines, some flexible and some commodity-dedicated, some pulling material from line side and some relying on Goods to Person automation, all operating under a priority-driven work order release model with an offline repair loop managing problem units off the floor.
That is a specific and complex operational picture. It is also one our team has lived firsthand, at scale, in some of the most demanding production environments in the world.

The Operational Reality This Board Is Built For
Consider a facility running six production lines. Two of those lines are flexible, capable of building any product in the portfolio and assigned work orders based on daily demand and priority. Two lines are dedicated to a single commodity and can only build that product family. The remaining two are also commodity-dedicated to a different product family. That means when demand shifts, the operations manager cannot simply redirect a commodity-dedicated line. They have to understand which lines are available for reallocation and which are not, and they need that picture immediately.
Material flow adds another layer. Some lines pull everything from line-side slotted inventory: parts staged at the line in quantities designed to support a specific number of builds before replenishment is needed. Other lines pull from both line-side and Goods to Person systems, where automated storage and retrieval sends components to the operator on demand. And some lines pull exclusively from GTP with no line-side buffer at all. What is slotted line side matters. A line-side shortage on a GTP-only line is a different problem than a line-side shortage on a hybrid line, and the response is different too.
Work order release and priority management tie these dimensions together. When orders are released to the floor, they carry a priority level that determines the sequence of production, the allocation of flex line capacity, and the urgency of material replenishment. A P1 rush order on a commodity-dedicated line that is already running a different P1 creates an immediate scheduling decision: hold the current run, find flex capacity, or accept the delay and communicate it upstream.
Finally, there is the Hospital. In any high-volume production environment, some units develop problems mid-build that cannot be resolved at the line without disrupting throughput. Those units are pulled off the line into an offline repair area, diagnosed, reworked or escalated, and then returned to the production line when ready. The Hospital is not a failure. It is a designed recovery mechanism. But it requires visibility: how many units are in the Hospital right now, which lines do they belong to, what is the root cause, and when will they be returned? Without that visibility, Hospital WOs become invisible commitments that silently erode the day’s output.

Reading across any row, the operations manager sees: which line it is and what commodity or flexibility it carries, what work order is currently active and its unit count, the priority level of that work order, the material supply mode and current readiness status, the GTP queue status where applicable, how many units are currently in the Hospital from that line, and the overall line status in a single color-coded field.
The Hospital summary bar at the bottom of the board shows the total Hospital count across all lines and surfaces the two or three highest-priority cases with their root cause and intended return line. An operations manager who walks into the morning standup and looks at this board for thirty seconds knows more about the state of their floor than most operations know after a thirty-minute meeting.
The Dimensions That Make This Board Different
Line Flexibility and Commodity Constraints
The board encodes line capability directly. A flex line shows as available for any product family. A commodity-dedicated line shows its assigned product family, making it immediately clear to a supervisor which lines can absorb a redirected work order and which cannot. When a commodity-dedicated line goes down or falls behind, the board immediately surfaces whether flex capacity exists to absorb the volume or whether the commitment itself needs to be revised.
Material Slotting and GTP Status
The material column distinguishes between line-side, GTP, and hybrid material modes and shows the readiness status of each. A line-side low-stock warning appears before the shortage becomes a stoppage, giving the material handler or warehouse team time to replenish before the line starves. A GTP active status confirms the automated system is feeding the line correctly. A GTP queue delay surfaces before it becomes a bottleneck. What is slotted line side matters because the replenishment lead time is different, the failure mode is different, and the countermeasure is different. The SAAG board reflects those differences rather than flattening them into a single material status field.
Work Order Priority and Release Management
Each active work order displays its priority level. When a P1 rush order is released to a line currently running a P2, the board flags the priority conflict immediately. The operations manager can make the sequencing decision in real time: redirect the current WO, pull flex capacity, or accept the trade-off. Without the SAAG board, that decision happens at the end of the shift when the P1 has already missed its window.
The Hospital Queue
The Hospital column and summary bar give the operations manager full visibility into units that are off-line. How many are there, which lines do they affect, what is the issue, and when do they come back? A Hospital with seven units sitting in it across two lines tells a very different story than a Hospital with zero. When Hospital units are return-ready, the board surfaces that fact so supervisors can sequence the return correctly, prioritizing lines that are running behind over lines that are ahead of pace.
The Technology Stack That Powers It

- Power BI for the visual layer. The multi-line SAAG board is built as a Power BI report connected to your ERP, MES, WMS, or production tracking data source. The row-and-column layout, color logic, and drill-through to WO detail are all built within Power BI. It runs on any screen, in any browser, and on mobile without a separate application. For facilities with multiple data sources, Microsoft Fabric provides the integration layer that consolidates ERP, GTP system data, and WMS feeds into a single model.
- Power Automate for alerts and escalation. When a line goes red, a material status hits low-stock, or a Hospital WO exceeds its target return time, Power Automate fires an alert through Microsoft Teams to the appropriate owner: the line supervisor, the material handler, the maintenance technician, or the operations manager depending on the alert type. Escalation ladders are configured once and run automatically.
- Microsoft Teams for in-context action. Supervisors receive alerts in Teams and can acknowledge, assign a countermeasure, or escalate directly from the notification. All activity is logged against the WO record and visible on the board. Communication and action happen in the same platform rather than across phone calls, text messages, and disconnected systems.
- NinjaOne for remote device management. NinjaOne is TekNation’s remote monitoring and management platform. When a system issue blocks a line, whether a GTP integration failure, a scanner going offline, or an ERP sync error, TekNation uses NinjaOne to remote into the affected device and resolve the issue quickly, without requiring an on-site visit. IT exception status is surfaced on the SAAG board so the operations team can see whether an issue is being worked without leaving the dashboard.
- Microsoft Copilot for natural language queries. An operations manager who wants to ask “which lines are running commodity A work orders with Hospital units outstanding and material at risk?” can type that question directly into Copilot and get the filtered view instantly. This brings advanced analytical capability to supervisors who are not data analysts, which in a production environment is almost everyone.
